Khanacross is a controlled environment, off public roads and facilitated by experience, qualified people with a demonstrated history of running events, partnering with Gold Coast Tweed Motorsport Clubs. Although the results are determined by the use of a stopwatch, this is not a high speed event. We use the watch and timing to demonstrate the improvement in driver skill and technique.
The events are in a grass paddock on Tamborine Mountain. A controlled environment, where the surface enables students to get a feel for how a car moves around as the grip and other variables change. Road Safety always talks about “Driving to the conditions, but not once are learner drivers outside of Total Driver programs taught what this means or feels like. It is a course, direction changes with arrows that gives both student and instructor tools to improve vision, hand eye coordination skills, use of controls, braking and accelerator and puts fun back into driving again, in a controlled safe environment.
It is remarkable that we generally throw a few of the basics at Novice drivers and then let them go on to discover the rest for themselves. When of course they get it wrong, we throw the book at them for making a mistake” – Frank Gardner OAM
